The court board sentenced Simpkins to 12 years in prison, for whom a life sentence was sought on the charge of attempted murder.
Stating that he only carried the gun to protect himself in court, Simpkins said that Zaccheaus Selby (15), with whom he had a fight, entered the classroom and started beating himself.
In his defense, Simpkins said, “I’m really sorry. I just want a second chance.” used the phrase.
Simpkins had a fight with 15-year-old Selby at Timberview High on October 6, 2021.
During the fight, Simpkins fired three times at Selby, injuring a student and a teacher.
