The 78th session of the UN General Assembly has begun

Csaba Körösi, President of the UN 77th General Assembly, closed the 77th term of the Assembly by handing over the gavel of the chairman of the session to his successor.

Trinidad and Tobago’s candidate, Dennis Francis, who was elected President of the 78th UN General Assembly in June, swore that he would fulfill his duties with “loyalty, awareness and common sense”.

“UN Security Council will start to pose a problem”

In his speech here, Körösi called for “We must urgently reform the UN in accordance with today’s challenges.”

Expressing that times have changed and the UN should change within this framework, Körösi warned, “We have to reform the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council. If we do not do this, the UN Security Council will start to pose a problem instead of a solution.”

Körösi received a standing ovation from the participants at the end of his speech.

Francis, President of the 78th UN General Assembly, drew attention to the fact that the new era started while important tests were occurring on the global agenda.

Explaining that he would adopt 4 basic words for his period, Francis listed them as “peace”, “prosperity”, “development” and “sustainability”.
