Those who cycle to work in Belgium will receive money

In Belgium, with the agreement between employers and worker representatives within the scope of the National Labor Council, it became obligatory to give bicycle allowance to those who cycle to work.

Accordingly, from 1 May, employees will receive an allowance of 0.27 euro per kilometer from their employer if they cycle to work. This allowance will be tax exempt.

An employee’s daily bicycle allowance cannot exceed 40 kilometers. Thus, the bicycle allowance will be limited to 10.8 euros per day.

Until now, employers could decide on the bicycle allowance. In this context, approximately 30 percent of employers paid their employees who use bicycles according to the distance between their homes and workplaces.

With the new application, the use of bicycles in the country is expected to become more widespread.
