The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), of which Turkey is one of the founders, declares a city from 10 member countries every year as the “tourism capital”.
This year, this title was given to the Iranian city of Ardabil.
The decision, which was welcomed in Iran with joy, was celebrated with two days of meetings as well as different activities and demonstrations.
The declaration of the city of Ardabil as the tourism capital was made in the Fedek Cultural Complex.

Tehran Ambassadors of 10 member countries of the Organization also attended the ceremony.
In an interview with TRT Haber, Turkey’s Ambassador to Tehran, Hicabi Kırİlk, drew attention to the importance of the organization:
“ECO is an important organization for the region, Turkey is one of the founding countries. Now, of course, it has expanded to reach 10 members. Besides being a regional organization, it has the potential to carry out studies that will bring these member countries to the fore in international platforms.”
Ambassador Kırlangin also drew attention to the economic and tourism potential of the city of Ardebil.
He pointed out that the cultural infrastructure also played a role in being declared a tourism capital.
Within the scope of the meetings, the delegation consisting of Ambassadors and members of the media visited the important tourism spots of Erdebil together.
Examples of traditional Iranian sports were exhibited on the shore of the “Shurabil” lake.
The program ended with fireworks displays.
