The US Embassy in Haiti has issued a written statement on the subject.
The statement advised US citizens to use private or commercial means of transportation.
“Due to the current security situation and infrastructure difficulties in the country, US citizens in Haiti must leave the country as soon as possible,” the statement said.
The US State Department had previously issued a warning not to travel to Haiti, demanding that non-essential Embassy personnel leave the country.
Since the beginning of 2023, more than 2,400 people have lost their lives in violence involving gangs in Haiti, and 160,000 people have been displaced.
The UN announced that gang violence in the country increased by 28 percent in the first quarter of the year.
