Venice prepares to test entry fee for day tourists

According to a written statement from the Municipality of Venice, the municipality administration will charge visitors an entrance fee on days when the number of tourists is expected to be the highest in 2024, in order to prevent the tourist density in the city. The trial will be held on 30 separate days throughout the year and the entrance fee will be 5 euros.

City residents, workers, students, children under the age of 14 and those who come for sports events will be exempted from the application.

The decision sent to the municipal council by the municipal administration will be discussed on September 12 for approval.

Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro said that the new application does not mean the closure of the city, but that they should regulate the tourist density in certain periods.

Although similar practices were on the agenda in previous years in Venice, they could not be implemented for different reasons.

With its historical structure built on canals, Venice welcomes millions of tourists every year.
