Zelensky to attend NATO’s Vilnius Summit

Stoltenberg answered journalists’ questions before the Ukraine Defense Contact Group Meeting, hosted by the US, at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

Reminding that he visited Ukraine for the first time yesterday after Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Stoltenberg conveyed that he conveyed the message that they would support Ukraine until the end in his meeting with Zelenskiy.

Stoltenberg said, “We also discussed the preparations for the NATO Summit to be held in Vilnius in July with President Zelenskiy. I invited him to the summit meeting. I am happy that he accepted my invitation and will attend the summit.” said.

Reminding that NATO countries decided to become a NATO member in the future at the Bucharest Summit in 2008, Stoltenberg said that he also discussed the issue of Ukraine’s NATO membership and security guarantees with Zelenskiy.

Stoltenberg said, “One day, when this war is over, we must ensure that history does not repeat itself, that Russia does not wage war against Ukraine again, that it does not destroy European security. Therefore, we must discuss a security framework.” he said.

During his visit to Kiev yesterday, “Ukraine’s rightful place is NATO.” Reminding that he gave his message, Stoltenberg emphasized that Ukraine should continue its existence as a sovereign and independent country, and for this, NATO should continue its support.
